Statement of Work (SOW)

The document defining the work a contractor must perform.

Definition

A Statement of Work specifies tasks, deliverables, schedule, and standards for a contract. It is prescriptive: it tells the contractor how the work is structured and what constitutes completion.

Why it matters

Every requirement in the SOW should map to a line in your compliance matrix and a paragraph in your proposal — evaluators check for exactly that.

Example

The SOW requires monthly status reports due by the fifth business day, a scored deliverable.
